Bonaparte is a gay and drag café on the Nieuwe Binnenweg, west of the centre and a short walk from the Eendrachtsplein end of the gay quarter. It is a night café, the kind of place that opens as others are closing.
Drag is the point of it. The bar puts on drag shows and drag bingo, and describes itself as a Dutch gay and drag café where acceptance and respect come first, open to gay, lesbian, straight, drag and trans guests alike.
The café has had a hard few years. A fire in June 2023 gutted it and it stayed shut until April 2024. It closed again in May 2025 and was put up for sale, then reopened in December 2025 under new ownership.
