A gay bar on Van Welderenstraat, one of the busiest going-out streets in Nijmegen, where it sits among ordinary cafes rather than in any gay quarter. That is deliberate. The bar says it does not believe in the old idea of a gay bar closed off from everything around it, and wants a mixed room.
Inside it is dark and low, with disco balls, chandeliers and a neon figure over the toilet door. There is a terrace on the street, karaoke and live acts, and Eurovision is enough of a fixture to have its own night. One evening a week the bar puts on a free meal for whoever turns up.
It belongs to a small group that runs bars under the same name in Rotterdam and Eindhoven.
