The Cuckoo's Nest is a cruise bar for men off the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, near the Dam. Upstairs it is an ordinary enough cafe. The reason people come is the darkroom in the cellar, which is large and deliberately very dark.

Entry is 18 and over. The bar has handed out free condoms at the coat check since 2006 and puts safe sex material where people will see it, while being clear that the choices are the guest's own. House rules are posted and enforced.

One practical warning the bar gives itself: the darkroom gets crowded and has a history of pickpocketing, so valuables belong in the coat check and only some cash should come downstairs.
