De Lellebel

De Lellebel has been running just off Rembrandtplein since November 1997 and is Amsterdam's drag show bar. It is trans and queer women owned and run, and the front page tells you where you are: be cool, you are in a queer bar and we rock.

The music is rock, which sets it apart from nearly every other gay bar in the city, and the room is pub-style rather than club-style, small enough to hold a conversation without shouting. The first weeks of the month are plain pub nights with nothing programmed. The last weekends carry the queer events: drag shows, comedy, karaoke, live music and open mic.

The interior is baroque, with mirrors, paintings and chandeliers. The crowd runs from across the queer spectrum through to straight visitors and weekend hen parties.
