Cafe Montmartre is a singalong bar, the Dutch meezingcafe: Dutch-language hits, the whole room joining in, and no pretence of being a club. It ran for decades on the Halvemaansteeg near Rembrandtplein, closed there in November 2023, and reopened on the Reguliersdwarsstraat in September 2024 as Montmartre XL.
It has been voted the most popular gay bar in the Netherlands more than once. The singing is the point, so the crowd skews to people who want to be part of it rather than to talk over it.
The bar is now run together with Bar BLEND and Bar BLEND XL, which sit a few doors along the same block.
