About

Maori sits below the walls of Fort St Elmo on the Valletta shore, facing the wreck of HMS Maori that gives it its name. The front is covered in murals, the seating is outside on the rocks, and the whole thing is closer to a shack with a view than to a bar.

It has been the meeting point for Valletta's queer and arts crowd for years. Open mic nights, small gigs and queer dance nights happen here and Malta Pride has used it for events. It is lesbian-owned, and dogs are welcome as long as they get on with the other dogs.

Two things to know before walking down there. It is cash only, and drinks not bought at the bar are not allowed on the premises.
