Cafe Society is run by a gay couple on the steps of Triq San Gwann in Valletta, at the corner of Triq San Pawl. The tables sit outside on the steps, the inside is small and dark, and the walls carry whatever show is up.
It is queer without being a gay bar in the narrow sense. The crowd is alt, arty and mixed, and the programme runs to drag, DJ sets and live music through the year. The bar has been a Pride venue for years and its own line is that it keeps it queer all day, every day. Its other line, on the Facebook page, is that it is the wrong place for the right people.
Cocktails are what people come for, and the steps fill early on any evening with something on.
