NORA is a bookshop and a cafe in the same room, on a narrow street in the Quadrilatero, and it has been there since 2017. The shelves carry around five thousand titles on gender, feminism and LGBTQIAP+ culture: essays, novels, graphic novels and books for children, with space kept for small Turin publishers.
The place divides into three parts, the cafe, the bookshop and a reading room that four book clubs use. Coffee is taken seriously, so order a bicerin if you want the Turin version, and the kitchen keeps vegan options. Author talks and book presentations are frequent and in good weather they move outdoors.
The Quadrilatero is a nightlife quarter, but NORA is not a bar. It is somewhere to sit with a book, and it is run as a queer and transfeminist space rather than a shop that happens to stock the subject. Step-free access was added in 2023.
