About

CasArcobaleno is Turin's LGBTQIA+ community house, in Aurora beside the Porta Palazzo market. Arcigay Torino started the project in 2012 and the doors opened on 25 April 2015, with thirteen other associations coming in alongside. The building is now the working address for most of them.

It is all on one floor and reads as five spaces. The atrium at the entrance has armchairs and doubles as the waiting area for appointments. Behind it the central hall takes meetings and events, and wooden pallets assemble into a small stage when something needs one. A smaller lounge with sofas is a help desk during the day and the reception in the evening. The Sala Rossa sits behind sliding doors around a large round table, for quieter conversations while an event runs next door. Left of the entrance is Barcobaleno, the bar, and the bar is what pays for the rest of the house.

The programme is a mix of debates, cultural evenings, listening and support services, film and social nights, running through the year. It is deliberately open to the neighbourhood as well as to the community, which is what the house means by its own line, 'la tua casa oltre ogni differenza'.

The building has step-free access, accessible changing facilities and inclusive signage throughout. Drinks at the bar come in glass, with no plastic straws.
