Euforia took over the Piazzale Lavater premises that were Blanco for years, one of the longest-running gay-friendly bars in the neighbourhood. It is run by the collective behind La Boum, the queer party that fills Milan's Friday nights, and calls itself that party's living room.
The room was rebuilt in blue neon and mirrored arches, and it works as a cafe in the morning and a bar at night. There is a proper drinks list with a long gin and premium spirits section, wine and beer, and a kitchen doing small plates.
Drag shows, karaoke and live music turn up on the programme, and the go-go dancers arrive when La Boum is involved. The square outside is quiet and residential, which makes the contrast sharper once you are inside.
