La Martellina is a bed and breakfast in a restored 13th-century mill on the banks of the Arno, in a green stretch of the valley a short way outside Florence. The bedrooms sit in their own wing of the villa, furnished with period furniture, each with a fridge and satellite television. Two of them, Salcio and Tower, are connected by a spiral staircase and can be taken together as a suite.
The garden runs down toward the river and has a swimming pool, a hammock, and quiet corners to sit in. It is pet-friendly, and the hosts keep animals of their own around the place.
It sits a short way outside central Florence, close to a bus stop into the city on the ATAF line, and is reachable by bike along a riverside path as well as by car.
