Caffè dell'Elfo stands on the Scalette di Santa Chiara, the stepped lane climbing from Piazza Yenne towards the old upper town. Its tables go out on the steps themselves, which is most of the appeal.

It is an espresso bar early and a cocktail bar late, and it describes itself as simply a friendly bar. In practice it is one of the places the local LGBTQ+ crowd has taken as its own for the aperitivo, and that, rather than any claim the bar makes about itself, is why it appears in the city's queer listings.
