Il Barattolo is a small queer bar on Via del Borgo di San Pietro, a few minutes' walk from the two towers. It is one of the very few bars in Bologna with an openly LGBTIQ+ identity rather than a friendly attitude, and it describes itself in its own words as antifascist and queer.
The room is plain and worn, with a foosball table, cheap beer and cocktails and a lot of noise. The music runs from the alternative and centri sociali end of Bologna's taste to plain pop, and the crowd mixes students, Erasmus arrivals and regulars. Themed nights and DJ sets fill the weekend.
It also does small cultural things between the drinking: art shows, performances, readings. Reviewers arriving in search of a polished cocktail bar tend to leave disappointed, which is more or less the point of the place.
