La Ciclatera Sotto il Mare sits on the old city walls on Via Venezia, with a terrace over the water looking across to the old port. It is the only bar in Bari with that view, and that is most of the reason it fills up the way it does.
It works as an aperitivo and cocktail bar, with regional wines, craft beers and light plates. The furnishings are original rather than styled to a theme, and there is live music. It does not take bookings, so at busy times you give your name and wait for a table to come free.
Its welcome goes further than the friendly label. It has sponsored Bari Pride, and it programmes evenings for the community around Pride and around the day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, alongside its music and cultural nights. It is the sister bar to La Ciclatera in the old town.
