About

Teach Solais is Galway's LGBT+ resource centre, a small house on Courthouse Square in the city centre, a few minutes on foot from Eyre Square. It is run by Amach! LGBT Galway, a community development charity set up in 2010, and the charity has its office here. Amach! describes the centre as the first of its kind in the West of Ireland.

This is a community space, not a bar. There is a regular drop-in afternoon, described by the centre as a relaxed social space for LGBTQI+ people, people who are questioning, and allies. The centre keeps a lending library and runs a book club, film screenings, a games night and an arts and crafts group. There is also an Irish-language group, a group for 18 to 25 year olds and a support group for parents.

Free HIV testing is offered at the centre, and the charity points people towards coming-out, trans and family support across Galway city and county. Since the city's last gay bar closed in 2024, this is the one place in Galway with a door of its own for the community, so it is a useful first stop for visitors who want to know what is on.
