Queer Hawk opened at Aston Place in Temple Bar in October 2024 as Ireland's first LGBTQ+ barbershop and salon. A second shop followed on Liffey Street Upper.
It ignores the usual barber and salon split: barbering, cutting, colour, braids, nails and makeup, all booked by service rather than by gender. Staff wear pronoun badges and the chairs are pink. The shop describes itself as unapologetically queer and straight-friendly, which is roughly the right order.
It also gives free haircuts to asylum seekers and people who are homeless, and turns out as a group for Dublin Pride.
