About

Café Babalú is a queer owned cafe in a small yellow and orange corner house on Skólavörðustígur, on the climb up towards Hallgrímskirkja. It has been on the street for years and is as much a local fixture as a stop on the tourist walk.

Cake is the reason to go. The cheesecake is what the place is known for, and there is a vegan carrot cake that regulars order without reading the board. Soup and light plates fill out the rest, and the coffee holds up.

There are two floors. The upstairs room is small and cluttered with odd objects, and it is where people settle in for an hour rather than pass through. One of the bathrooms is done out as a Star Wars set.
