22 Bar

About

22 Bar is the ground floor of the old timber house on the corner of Laugavegur and Klapparstígur. Kiki Queer Bar is upstairs in the same building, and the two run the place as one address. The house has been a meeting point in the city centre since 1959, and the corner has served the queer community for decades.

It is a vinyl bar and cafe. There is a record collection with listening stations, turntables and headphones, so you can sit with an album instead of talking over one. The food is simple: hot soup and light plates, alongside Icelandic beer and ordinary drinks.

The bar describes itself as the calmer half of the house, somewhere to sit down with a coffee before the dancing starts overhead. 22 Bar and Kiki put on joint events, and during Pride the two floors run a shared programme under the name House of 22.
