Rooster

Restaurants in Athens, Greece

About

Rooster is a gay cafe and restaurant on Plateia Agias Eirinis in Monastiraki, on a square that has become one of the busiest in central Athens. It started in 2009 as a gay cafe and grew into a full restaurant by 2017.

The tables outside on the square are the point. It is a place to sit and watch the square rather than a nightlife venue. The kitchen runs from breakfast through to dinner, there are cocktails and a resident DJ in the evening, and the walls are used for art shows.

It calls itself gay but straight-friendly, and on a busy evening the square makes that literal. The old cathedral is directly behind it.
