SCHMIT-Z is the queer centre of Trier and the point most of the city's LGBTQ+ life runs through. It sits in a corner building on Mustorstraße in the old town, with a café room, a bar and a small stage.
More than ten groups meet here every month. Among them are the youth meet-up Route 66, a trans* and non-binary group, a queer women's group, a rainbow families group, the gay leisure group Schwufo, a volleyball team, a polyamory table and a pup and petplay group. The association also runs counselling, the SCHLAU school education project and its own theatre productions, and it rents out the rooms.
The association organises Pride Trier / CSD, the oldest CSD in Rhineland-Palatinate, plus the Rosa Karneval and queer history city tours. It runs the Queergarten, the open-air queer beer garden in the Palastgarten, through the summer, and there is karaoke in the centre on Wednesdays.
SCHMIT-Z e.V. describes itself as an open network for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and other queer people. It is a member of QueerNet RLP and sits on the regional AIDS advisory board.
