Bernstein is a bar and restaurant in the Bohnenviertel, the old craftsmen's quarter east of the city centre. It calls itself the Spielebar: a shelf of around fifty board, card, dice and party games that guests take to their table and play for nothing, from Scrabble and Risk to newer titles. Anyone with games at home they no longer want is invited to bring them along.
The kitchen changes its dishes with the season and runs regular all-you-can-eat spaghetti and schnitzel evenings. The drinks list is long and the beer is Alpirsbacher. There is a terrace with a view over the old town, and a foosball table inside.
The crowd is queer and straight together rather than one or the other. Groups of up to forty can be catered for with a buffet or a set menu.
