Bar59 is a small gay bar on a quiet lane in the Nuremberg old town, open since 2012. The city's Green party group once described it, alongside Bert's Bar, as one of the few places in the city where the queer community actually meets, which is a fair summary of what it does.
It is tiny, cheap and unfussy, with seats on the street in summer and a karaoke night that takes over the whole room. The bar says it is not committed to any one kind of music and is there for every age group and for anyone tolerant enough to be there.
It describes itself as gay and hetero-friendly in that order, which is the right way round for a bar this size.
