About

KCM is Münster's queer centre, in building G on the Hawerkamp east of the centre. It started in 1985 under the deliberately vague name Kommunikations Centrum Münsterland, chosen so that members would not be outed by the letterhead, and it is one of the oldest gay centres in Germany still running.

What it does now is counselling and community. There is psychosocial counselling, separate trans and inter counselling, and self-help groups for queer men, for trans, inter and non-binary people, and for their parents. A library sits in the building.

The centre also has a 115 square metre event room with a bar, a music and lighting rig and a kitchen. It carries the readings, talks, discussion evenings and parties on the programme, and it can be rented for private celebrations. The Hawerkamp is an alternative culture site, so the surroundings are warehouses and clubs rather than a quiet office street.
