About

Lebenslust is the counselling centre for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and inter people in Mülheim, run by a welfare association that has worked across the Ruhr area since 1998. It sits inside the Forum shopping centre in the middle of town and has its own entrance from the street.

The counselling covers coming out, isolation, discrimination and violence, relationships and sexuality, and sexually transmitted infections including HIV. It is open to people of any age and to people living with HIV, and it also runs online. A specialist service for sexual and gender diversity covering the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia works out of the same rooms.

What makes the address worth knowing for a visitor is Treff.Queer, the open meeting space on the same premises. Groups that meet there include a women's breakfast, an LSBTIN* brunch, a queer political round table, a fetish and BDSM table, a group for queer people with migration histories, a TIN*clusive group and a gay men's group. A queer sports group meets in a school gym elsewhere in the city.

The association is one of the organisations behind the city's CSD.
