Iron is the cocktail bar of Schaafenstraße, at the Rudolfplatz end of the gay quarter, directly next to Die Mumu. Darker and calmer than the bars around it, built around a long counter.
The drinks list runs to classic cocktails and house mixes, with wine and tapas as well, which is unusual for the street. Wines and spirits are chosen vegan. DJs play at weekends and there are karaoke nights.
The crowd is genuinely mixed, gay, lesbian and straight together, and that is what sets it apart from its neighbours rather than the drinks. The room reopened in its current form in November 2013 after a rebuild.
