About

HAKI is Kiel's queer centre and the contact point for lesbian, gay, bi, trans, inter and queer people across Schleswig-Holstein. It has been running for over fifty years and sits on Walkerdamm, a few minutes from the Kleiner Kiel.

The centre counsels, free of charge and in confidence, in person, by phone, by post or over video, and you can stay anonymous. It runs the largest queer library in Schleswig-Holstein, open to anyone who walks in: queer fiction and non-fiction, illustrated books, comics, manga, DVDs and children's books, borrowable for four weeks. And it houses the groups, among them a youth space called #dein_raum, a group for parents of trans children, one for queer people with disabilities, a project for queer refugees and migrants, and the film group behind Kiel's queer film weekend. CSD Kiel is organised from the same address.

You can drop in during contact hours without an appointment and simply look around. All floors are reachable by lift, there are no thresholds inside, the toilets are all-gender and one is barrier-reduced with a sliding door. The way in from the underground garage is the exception: heavy doors and thresholds.
