Harlekin sits on Kirchhofallee in the Südfriedhof quarter, a short walk south of Kiel's main station. It calls itself the oldest gay bar on the Kiel Fjord.
Inside it is a pub rather than a club. One long counter fills the room with seating on every side, Tiffany lamps hang low over it, and a spirits shelf covers most of the wall behind. The fittings belong to an older Kiel and have not been brought up to date.
The crowd is largely regulars, and this is a place for drinking and talking rather than dancing. It is a late bar: the night here starts when other places are already full.
