The Queeres Zentrum is the community centre for queer people in Kassel and North Hesse. The association behind it was founded in 2021 and, after a long search for premises, opened these rooms on Mauerstraße in 2024.
It is on the fifth floor of the building signed Ärztehaus, with the entrance between a restaurant and the transport authority's customer office. Inside there is a large main room separated from the hallway by a curtain, with a clothes swap rail and a kitchenette; a chill-out room with sofas, a library and a games collection; a craft room with tables and materials in the cupboards; and a quiet awareness room with soft seating and grounding tools. All three toilets are open to every gender.
Most of what happens there is run by volunteers from the various queer communities, and groups from across the region use the rooms. There is an open living room anyone can drop into without joining anything, and the centre publishes a page describing the barriers the building still has.
