Herne sits in the middle of the Ruhr area between Bochum, Gelsenkirchen and Recklinghausen, and it has had its own Christopher Street Day since 2020. The 2027 edition is in June.
The format has been the same for years: a demonstration through the city centre with a rally on the way, then a stage programme and a street festival with stands from local groups. Past stage programmes have mixed speeches with DJ sets, live music and drag.
The CSD is run by a local queer association together with the city's queer youth forum and other partners. It is a neighbourhood-sized Pride, political in tone, and free to join.
