The Vulkan was the first gay sauna in Germany and has been running for more than fifty years, in the middle of Hannover a few minutes from the main station. It is also one of the larger ones in Europe, spread over five floors.
The wet area has a dry sauna at 90 degrees, a big steam sauna built as a maze, a large cold plunge pool, a whirlpool and a heated stone lounger under a starry ceiling. Around them are a cruising area, a video lounge, rest cabins, a smoking room and a station with wifi. The roof terrace is the thing regulars mention first, since it catches the sunset over the city.
There is a proper kitchen rather than a snack counter: salads, schnitzel, home-made cake, espresso and wheat beer. Everything is charged to the locker key and settled on the way out. The entrance is on the corner of Hausmannstraße, which is worth knowing because the address alone does not lead you to a door.
