The Burgklause is the oldest gay bar in Hannover, opposite the city's oldest half-timbered house in the small surviving piece of the old town. It has been running since 1966 and looks it, in the good way: dark wood, a low room, and a collection of wooden bottle openers that has been growing on the wall for decades.
It is a smoking bar and a plain one. Beer rather than cocktails, regulars rather than a scene crowd, and cheap by the standards of the city centre. The bar is two tram stops from the main station.
