Zum Pümpchen is a gay pub on Kopstadtplatz, a small square a few steps off Essen's main shopping street. It is one of the older and plainer bars in the city scene: a counter, a handful of tables, and a few seats outside on the square in summer.
The crowd is gay men across a wide age range and much of the room is regulars. The entrance and the parking outside are step-free.
The bar's website is a single page from an old web editor, a rainbow flag over the name, the address and the phone number, and it has clearly not been touched in years. It is also the only thing the bar publishes about itself.
