The Harlekin is the last gay bar in Duisburg, a corner pub of about a hundred and thirty square metres in the Dellviertel, and it carries the whole scene of a city of half a million on its own. Its full name, ob so oder so, translates roughly as one way or the other.
It is a Kneipe rather than a club: rainbow flags on the walls, a small stage for the travesty shows it is known for, karaoke, live music and a bit of dancing when the room wants it. Young and old, and by all accounts nobody minds which.
In October 2021 someone set fire to the rainbow flag outside it, which made the national queer press. The bar put a new one up.
