About

Darmstadt's queer centre is in the Oetinger Villa on Kranichsteiner Straße, in the north of the city. The local queer association vielbunt took the building over in 2017 and runs it as a meeting point for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, inter and queer people from the city and the surrounding area.

Much of the week belongs to villaQ, the open youth centre for queer people aged 14 to 27. There are groups for queer girls and women, for trans and non-binary young people, for those on the asexual and aromantic spectrum, and for queer refugees and young people of colour, plus a book club and creative afternoons. The centre also offers counselling on queer questions to people of all ages and to their families.

For adults the villa is the base of vielbunt's working groups, from sport to the Christopher Street Day, which is organised from here. Once a month the rooms turn into the Queerbar, a party with changing DJs that goes on into the small hours and is open to everyone over 18.

The entrance has about seven steps without a handrail. The event rooms are on the ground floor with wide doors, but there is no wheelchair-accessible toilet yet.
