Cuxhaven gets its first Christopher Street Day in 2027. The North Sea port at the mouth of the Elbe has never had a Pride of its own, and this one is meant for the town and for the Cuxland district around it.
The motto is "Gemeinsam Meer Vielfalt", a play on Meer (sea) and mehr (more). The organisers describe the day first of all as a demonstration: for equal rights, against discrimination, and for the visibility of queer people on a stretch of coast where many are not out.
Behind it is a broad local alliance. A volunteer committee brings together the town's queer group, the trade union ver.di, the district youth council, counselling services and other civic and church groups.
