ColognePride is one of the largest Prides in Europe and runs as a season rather than a weekend. Several weeks of programme lead up to the two parts most visitors come for: the CSD street festival, which takes over squares across the old town, and the CSD demonstration that closes the whole thing on the final day.
The demonstration is what Cologne is known for. The centre is closed off for it and the turnout runs into the hundreds of thousands, with blocks from community groups, unions, parties and companies. The street festival in the days before it puts stages and stands on the squares, and ColognePride keeps a political programme running alongside the music rather than treating the two separately.
ColognePride e.V. runs the whole thing from an office in the middle of the old town and opens registration for the demonstration a long way ahead, which is worth knowing if you want to walk with a group rather than watch.
