Ex-Corner sits on Schaafenstraße, the short street off Rudolfplatz that holds most of Cologne's gay nightlife. It has run for more than twenty years and works as a pub and a small club at once, with its own lighting and sound rig at the back.
The music is German Schlager, Cologne carnival songs and pop, which pulls a wider age range than the bars either side of it. Entry is free, though there is now a wristband system that some regulars grumble about. Large windows along the front make it a see-and-be-seen room.
In warm weather the crowd spills across to Hennes' Terrasse on Mauritiuswall, which the same gastronomy runs. Most pub crawls through the Bermudadreieck start or end here.
