KWEER is the cafe and bar of Rat&Tat, the queer centre of Bremen, in the Ostertor quarter. It changes character depending on the evening: a bar with a music programme that runs from swing to electronic, a Sunday cafe with home-made cake, and a room with a big screen when Werder Bremen play.
It is volunteer-run and it states an anti-discrimination policy for every event rather than only for the queer ones. Concerts, readings, exhibitions and themed evenings run alongside the ordinary opening.
The same building holds the rest of Rat&Tat, which has been going since 1982: counselling, psychosocial support for people living with HIV, a queer youth group, and space for self-help groups. For a visitor it is the least commercial way into queer Bremen.
