Sauna 65 calls itself the gay sauna for Ostwestfalen-Lippe, and it has the region largely to itself. It is men only, gay, bisexual and straight men alike, and it sits in an industrial stretch north of the Bielefeld centre with parking on its own grounds, so nobody watches you arrive.
There is a Finnish sauna with a panorama window and a steam room held between 38 and 42 degrees in dense fog. The cruising side is a dark labyrinth you find your way through by touch, along with a sling room, lockable private cabins and a video room. Aroma infusions with fresh fruit run on some days.
Outdoors there is a large naturist area with a heated whirlpool, and a winter garden for cooling down. Inside there is also a pool, a bar doing snacks and pizza, a billiards table that costs nothing to use, and a smoking lounge. Smoking is confined to that lounge and the outdoor area.
A locker with key and wristband, a towel, condoms and shower gel come with entry. A second towel and pool slippers can be rented. The house asks for slippers outside the saunas and turns away anyone drunk or on drugs.
