Le Grand Amiral is a chambres d'hôtes in the Bugey, at the foot of the Col de la Lèbe in the Ain, between Lyon and Geneva. It calls itself gay and lesbian friendly, and its logo is a fan of rainbow colours. The building was a country hotel and restaurant, and it still has the long white front with a balcony full of geraniums and petunias over the entrance.
The rooms each have their own shower room and WC and a character of their own: La Fleurie for a couple or a small family, La Céleste under a painted vaulted ceiling, La Vitaminée with an antique bed, La Jaune, and La Spacieuse for longer stays. Downstairs there is a bar, a dining room and a modern sitting room with a fireplace, furnished with old sideboards and wood panelling, and the windows look out to the Grand Colombier or the woods.
The grounds cover 7,800 square metres up to the forest edge, with a relaxation yurt, a jacuzzi, a terrace of loungers under domed shades, a boules pitch, darts, badminton and table tennis. Massages and other treatments can be arranged. The Lac du Bourget is about 35 minutes away and the Grand Colombier, the ViaRhôna cycle route and the Cerveyrieu waterfall are closer still.
