La Bergerie du Moulin is a five-room guesthouse in a converted mill sheepfold in a valley below the Provencal village of Taradeau, in the Var. The building goes back to the late eighteenth century and was an oil press, an inn and a private home before it took guests. The rooms are called the Honeymoon Room, the Sheepfold Suite, the Country Room, the Lavender Room and the Geranium Room, and the beds are all queen or king size.
The house is adults only and takes no children. Clothing is optional in the leisure areas and naturism is permitted, though public sexual activity is not. The guesthouse says it welcomes everyone regardless of gender, sexual orientation, skin colour or religion, and that respect and tolerance are the only rules it keeps. Well-behaved dogs are accepted.
Cooking matters here. Everything is made in the house, from terrines and spreads to pastries and ice cream, and through the summer there is a light menu of quiches, salads and sharing platters during the day. On some evenings a themed dinner is served, by reservation only, and breakfast is included in the room rate. Yoga classes and massages can be arranged, and in summer the pool is open to non-residents on a day pass.
