Le Golden Gate is a gay bar in the Petite France quarter, on the stretch of Rue du Fossé des Tanneurs that runs down towards the canals. It calls itself a bar lounge, and that is about right: warm colours inside, a long counter, and a terrace that catches the afternoon sun.
The crowd is mixed, gay and lesbian, with a core of regulars who have been coming for years. Cocktails are the house speciality, alongside beer and hot drinks. It works well as a first stop, close enough to the rest of the centre that people move on later.
There is dancing once the room fills up, but this is a bar rather than a club, and the terrace is what most people come for.
