Le Canapé Queer is a queer bar in Strasbourg's Krutenau quarter, at 20 rue des Couples. It opened in 2022 as the city's first venue explicitly dedicated to LGBTQI+ culture. The name was a deliberate choice by founder Clément Rose, who wanted the welcome to be unmistakable from the moment you read the sign. Everyone is included.
It is a walk-in venue, with no booking system to navigate before turning up. Walls carry a collection of queer vinyl, a 1920s piano sits in one corner, and a free-access queer library is there to browse. A make-up corner lets anyone touch up a look before the night kicks off. Coloured lighting keeps the room cosy, and the terrace pulls in a steady crowd once the weather turns. Dogs are welcome.
Drinks are taken seriously. Most cocktails come in three versions, including a mocktail, so nobody is pushed out of joining a round on cost or sobriety grounds. The beer list leans towards independent brewers with a conscience: bottles from the Stonewall Inn in New York, the R for Diversity beer from Nice that channels its proceeds to LGBTQI+ associations, and a rotation of small Alsatian breweries. Fresh pretzels arrive daily, and small plates from local kitchens cover the food side.
Programming runs through the week. Drag nights, live music, contemporary art exhibitions, and an open mic that invites regulars and visiting performers up to the microphone. With room for about a hundred guests, it works for a low-key weeknight drink and for the busier nights around Strasbourg's queer events alike.

Adore this little spot. Clement is the consummate host! Delicious drinks! Fun, cute crowd!
Lovely. It’s so important to have our own spaces. Thanks for keeping this one!
Such a cozy pub to hang out, it's only a bit unfurtunate how small it is, that when is full, it is impossible to reach the bar to order drinks

A must-visit for anyone who values authenticity, community, and a really good cocktail. 🌈🍸
Great LGBTQ bar to have a drink inside or outside on the terrace. Very friendly (also English speaking) staff!
We were there yesterday around 10pm for drinks. Tasteful decoration and friendly staff. Fair prices. The crowd is very relaxed and it's easy to talk to ppl even when you don't speak french. we met some lovely people and had a nice time. We will definitely visit again if in Strasbourg. Highly recommended!
