The Zanzibar is a bar-brasserie on Rue Pasteur in central Saint-Denis, and it is the address the gay guides have pointed at for years as the main gay and gay-friendly meeting point in the city.
It is worth being clear about what that means. This is not a gay bar in the way a European capital has gay bars. It is a French bistro that describes its own cooking as franchouillard, does tapas and Creole dishes to take away, and happens to be where the scene in Saint-Denis drinks. There is a small terrace out front, which is where most people sit.
The Bubbles sauna is a short drive east along the seafront, and the Barachois promenade is a few streets north.
