Sauna California is a gay sauna on rue de Léon, a few minutes on foot from Rennes station. It runs over three floors and around 800 square metres, which makes it the larger of the two saunas in the city.
The ground floor holds the bar, the changing rooms, a dry sauna, a hammam and a jacuzzi that takes about twenty people, along with a room fitted out as a dungeon. Upstairs are the video and television lounges, private cabins, a foam room and a massage space. The cruising areas run to four permanent slings, two round beds, a fist and spank bench, a cabin built for watching and being watched, and glory holes. There is a smoking area and a small counter selling poppers and gear.
The house splits its programme between men-only sessions and mixed ones that take lesbians, bi and straight visitors, trans and cross-dressing guests included, so it is worth checking which kind of session is running before you go. Theme evenings recur through the year, among them naked, foam and blackout nights. The building is air conditioned throughout, which the house makes a point of.
