Les Filles du Bord de Mer is a set of self-catering fishermen's houses and flats in Port-en-Bessin-Huppain, on the Calvados coast. The harbour still works: trawlers come in past the stone piers and tie up in the middle of the village, and the shops and restaurants are the village's own rather than a season's worth.
The places sleep two to four and each has a name and a character: La Maison sur le Quai, Poisson Nomade, L'Esprit du Port, Mer Nature and others. Some stand on the sea front looking at the tide, others in the lanes behind the boats. The owners own them and let them directly, some by the week and some for short stays.
In the same village they keep a shop, La Compagnie Ordinaire de la Mer, with design pieces and a short list of wine and food, and they put things on through the year: a garden café in summer, a pop-up restaurant with visiting cooks, cookery classes, design and second-hand fairs.
Omaha Beach, Bayeux and Arromanches are each about ten minutes away.
