About

Les Ânes de Vassivière is a donkey farm at Champseau, near Peyrat-le-Château and the Lac de Vassivière, in the Millevaches regional park. It breeds donkeys, takes walkers out with them, and lets guests stay on its 25 hectares.

There are several ways to stay. The three-star gîte for four is in the farmhouse, which dates from 1842, with two bedrooms, a wood-burning stove and a wooden terrace. There are traditional Mongolian yurts for couples and families, a painted gypsy caravan for two, the old bakehouse restored as a lodging of its own, and pitches for people travelling by van. A sauna and massages can be booked, and there are table d'hôtes meals and picnic baskets made with local produce.

The farm runs day walks and longer treks with a donkey carrying the bags, including a stretch of the Way of St James, and activities with the animals for families. Besides the donkeys there are a dog, cats and poultry, and a river runs through the land.

The farm has a page of its own for LGBT+ guests. It says every sexual orientation and gender identity is respected, that same-sex couples can use the gîte, the yurts and the caravan without fear of judgement, and that rainbow families are welcome.
