A bed and breakfast in the village of Montsaugeon, in the Haute-Marne, roughly halfway between Langres and Dijon. Three rooms, La Comtesse, Le Grenetier and Le Châtelain, are set with period furniture, private bathrooms and satellite television. La Comtesse and Le Grenetier connect through an interior door and can be booked together for a larger party.
The house looks out over a fish pond and the ruins of a medieval castle, in a village that also has a church dating from the 12th and 13th centuries and an old keep. Bikes are available to explore the surrounding vineyards and countryside on two wheels or on foot, and the local vines produce a wine called Muid Montsaugeonnais.
It sits roughly halfway between the ramparted city of Langres and Dijon, with Beaune reachable further south, and calls itself a comfortable stopover for anyone travelling toward the south of France as much as a base for exploring the region on its own. Breakfast is included, dinner is available, and private parking is on site. Pets are not allowed.
