Madrediosa is a queer and feminist bar in the Beaux-Arts quarter, just north of Montpellier's old town. It describes itself as a bar for queers and allies, and it is run as a safe space rather than as a nightclub.
The kitchen is vegan and vegetarian, with burgers and tapas alongside beer, wine and cocktails. The programme is the point of the place: drag shows and drag king open stages, a comedy club, readings, DJ sets and a recurring dyke day. There is seating outside and live performances are frequent.
The bar opened in March 2020 and has become one of the fixed points of the city's queer scene, to the extent that regional television has reported on it as a space where young people come to talk about gender and relationships.
