About

Tarlata Café is a café and cocktail bar on Cours Julien in Marseille's 6th arrondissement, between a graffitied doorway and a shopfront painted with murals. It is a mixed neighbourhood place rather than a gay bar. Mornings are coffee and pastries, later it is wine, beer, cocktails and sharing boards. There are no sit-down meals.

The place has three parts. A row of tables on the pavement faces Cours Julien. Inside is a long, bright room with a wooden bar, hexagonal shelves on the walls, blue chairs and framed Marseille posters. At the back is a walled gravel garden with climbing plants, string lights, red parasols and a lounge corner at the foot of a metal staircase.

The café has run Pride apéros during Marseille's Pride month, and after the Pride march it throws its own apéro for people coming off the parade. An LGBTQ+ association has held its social evenings here as well. The whole place, or part of it, can be booked for private parties of up to 120 people.
